Ingredients
Meatballs:
4 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup vodka
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons dried minced onion flakes
1 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
3 pounds ground beef
2 pounds ground turkey
1 (15 ounce) package Italian seasoned bread crumbs
Sauce:
2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
2 (14.25 ounce) cans tomato puree
1 (13 ounce) bottle Sweet and Smokey barbeque sauce
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup vodka
2 tablespoons dried minced onion flakes
1 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
1. In a large bowl, combine eggs, 1/2 cup vodka and Worcestershire sauce. Season with 2 tablespoons onion flakes, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
2. Mix in ground beef, ground turkey and bread crumbs.
3. Shape into meatballs, and set aside.
4. In a very large pot over medium heat, Combine crushed tomatoes, tomato puree, barbeque sauce, pineapple, brown sugar, ketchup, and 1/2 cup vodka.
5. Season to taste with onion flakes, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
6. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and let simmer.
7. Heat a large heavy skillet over medium heat.
8. Cook meatballs until evenly brown on all sides.
9. Carefully place into sauce, and simmer for at least an hour.
